Moncton, January 15 2018 - Cyclists who wish to take advantage of the early-bird registration for the 2018 Tour of Hope may do so until January 31st. This year, the event will take place from July 26th to 29th.

The Tour of Hope is a fundraising event for the Tree of Hope Campaign. This four-day cycling tour helps raise awareness of the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle. The 2017 Tour of Hope raised a total of $160,000.

“Next July, the Tour of Hope participants will have the chance to cycle around New Brunswick alongside people who, like them, are committed to improving the care of cancer patients in New Brunswick," said event Co-Chair Dr. Carole Williams. “The funds raised make a real difference in the quality of care offered to cancer patients, right here in New Brunswick.”

As was the case last year, the tour will kick off in Edmundston on Thursday morning. That day, participants will cycle to Campbellton. After a well-deserved night of rest, they will cycle through the Chaleur region and reach Caraquet. On Saturday, they will travel from Caraquet to Miramichi, via Tracadie and Neguac. On the last day of the event, the cyclists will travel from Miramichi to Moncton, passing through Kent County and the Shediac area.

“I am looking forward to sharing this great adventure with cyclists from all over New Brunswick,” said Co-Chair Denise Landry Nadeau. “The Tour of Hope conveys a message to the population about the importance of being active and committed to improving our health. This is an experience that we will never forget. It allows us to challenge ourselves physically and mentally. And to create new friendships and many memories!”

2018 is an important year for the Tree of Hope Campaign. It celebrates its 30th anniversary. Since its inception in 1989, the campaign has raised close to 26 million dollars. Donations are used to improve patient care at the Dr. Léon-Richard Oncology Centre in Moncton and in satellite units in Northern New Brunswick. They also support cancer research efforts and fund improvements at the Mgr. Henri-Cormier Lodge, where patients can stay free-of-charge.

To take advantage of reduced pledge requirements, participants must register by January 31st, 2018. For details, please visit: www.tourespoir.com.
