Tour of Hope 2019 128

Moncton, Monday July 29, 2019 – A boisterous crowd was on hand to welcome the more than 140 participants in the 2019 Tour of Hope yesterday.  Assumption Place in Moncton was all set to greet the cyclists who, this year, raised more than 342 000 $ a record amount in this 9th edition of the Tour.

The Tour of Hope, presented by Assumption Life, is a fundraising activity which contributes directly to the Tree of Hope Campaign whose mission is to improve comfort and care for cancer patients through the purchase of specialized equipment for the Dr.-Léon-Richard Oncology Center, and by offering advanced training opportunities for specialized oncology teams here in New Brunswick.

Projects funded are based on the needs identified at the Dr.-Léon-Richard Oncology Center and in other Dumont UHC departments offering a continuum in oncology care, for example, regional satellite units. Each year, projects are proposed and executed based on needs expressed and funds raised throughout the province and elsewhere. In 2018, the Tour of Hope raised $300,000.

Denise Landry-Nadeau of Edmundston is Co-Chair of the Tour of Hope

“Each of the cyclists who took part in the Tour of Hope this year did so with heartfelt enthusiasm. Some were expert cyclists, others less so. However, in an event such as this, ability is less important than the will to do their part to help those less fortunate than us; those who have to fight cancer daily.”

“We just lived through another incredible adventure,” said Dr. Carole Williams, Gynecologic Oncologist at the Dr. Léon-Richard Oncology Centre and Co-Chair of the Tour of Hope. “The welcome received in each community served once again as a catalyst for our cyclists to keep going each day.  As a physician, I am very touched by the support we received from the community, and by the generosity of individuals and businesses. This support will make an enormous difference in our efforts to fight cancer. I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for their support.”

Organizers of the Tour of Hope are very grateful for the support of sponsors, who made the 2019 edition a true success. Nadine Martin is the Executive Director of the CHU Dumont Foundation.

“The Tour of Hope is a true team effort. On behalf of the CHU Dumont Foundation, I offer sincere thanks to our two co-chairs who showed exceptional leadership throughout the four days. I also thank the athletes who rose to the challenge with brio. I thank our presenting sponsor, Assumption Life, as well as all our other sponsors and partners. I thank our volunteers and the Foundation employees without whom this event would not have been possible. And finally, I thank the generous donors who helped us raise a record amount again this year.”

The 2019 Tour of Hope, presented by Assumption Life, has been generously supported by Savoie Group, Fitworks, and A.L.P.A. Equipment Ltd.

Réjean Boudreau, Vice President and Chief, Organizational Development at Assumption Life, was pleased to welcome the cyclists in front of the Acadian institution’s building as they crossed the finish line in Moncton. “These individuals have accomplished something incredible by biking more than 650 km for this important cause, the Tree of Hope Campaign. Their dedication and determination are truly inspiring, and I’m convinced that these cyclists have inspired many people to give back to their community.”
